Tackling disinformation in Latin America
The 2022 edition of the Global Summit on Disinformation/Cumbre Global Sobre Desinformación, organized by the Inter American Press Association, the Foundation for Journalism (Bolivia) and Proyecto Desconfío (Argentina), will be held on November 17. It will be online and registration is free. The Summit is a space to learn, share and create collaborations initiatives against disinformation in the digital ecosystem.
The Summit will bring together specialists to discuss the characteristics of disinformation in Latin America. There will be conferences, workshops and rounds of dialogue to discuss journalistic challenges and technological developments to combat disinformation. At the same time, a round focus on fact checking projects in the region will be presented to share learnings and opportunities in the fight against fake news.
The speakers this year will include Cristina Tardáguila (International Center For Journalists, ICFJ), the Content Authenticity Initiative, fact-checking projects from more than 10 countries, and researchers like Mathias Felipe Lima (Coordinated campaigns in social media, Brazil) and Adrián Pino (Media Literacy, Argentina).
The program includes the role of the media in the fight against disinformation, especially in an election context, like the case of Colombia, Brazil or Chile. Also, the Global Summit will be time to discuss the verification process in new platforms like TikTok, with the Bolivia Verifica experiences. Journalists from Deutsche Welle Akademie and CAPIR will share programs to support journalism work on this topic.
